Match Report
The King's School, Canterbury 1st vs  Reed's School
On: Wednesday, 16 Oct 2019
Venue: Away

This match against Reed's at a soggy Burhill GC, an Open Qualifying course, turned out to be a triangular against Reed's and Kingston GS. Triangulars don't work out that well in golf, particularly with the fourball betterball format that was in operation, and with Kingston GS turning up with one pair fewer than Reed's and King's. Debuts were given to Monty Garrard and Benny Sharp, who gained useful experience and played a number of holes very well. Johnny Allen and Ben Cook were disappointed to narrowly lose their match, and Charlie Cook was partnered by Tom Fish, following an injury to regular partner Christy Francis. They fought back against a Reed's pair playing sub-par golf for much of the round, but lost out on the 18th. It's fair to say that Reed's were definitely the strongest school of the three (they came runners-up in last's year's National HMC Foursomes), but it was less clear as to whether King's or Kingston GS could lay claim to second place.
